In this talk I will give an introduction to the South Pole Telescope (SPT), a 10m CMB telescope located at the geographic South Pole. I will share logistics and stories from my 10.5 month deployment as a winter-over operator of SPT in 2016 to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station. Finally, I will introduce the SPT-3G upgrades deployed for the current winter observation season and discuss current observational efforts, including recent results delensing CMB B-modes.
