For the Public

Science by the people, for the people

New knowledge is humankind’s most valuable commodity. To truly advance humankind’s understanding of life and our physical world, the fruits of science—and the value of exploration—must be shared and celebrated with others.

The Center of Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics offers opportunities for people of every age to experience the thrill of discovery about our universe with top scientists working on the frontiers of knowledge.

Free lectures feature leading experts from Ohio State and around the world discussing science that touches our lives and blows our minds. Day camps and workshops fan young people’s imaginations through hands-on experience with scientific equipment and research, including several intended to foster girls’ interests in STEM fields. High school students can earn credit toward graduation as honorary CCAPP-ers through internships, shadowing faculty mentors and participating in lectures and events.

Around central Ohio members of the public can engage with science in a variety of settings. COSI visitors and 4-H campers can interact with science firsthand through programs offered in partnership with Ohio State. And CCAPP faculty, postdocs and grad students share their latest work at uniquely casual Astronomy on Tap gatherings.

Science is about understanding—and not just for scientists. As CCAPP scientists advance science with some of the world’s most exciting experiments, they invite people far and wide to join them in marveling at the wonders of our physical world.
