CCAPP Workshop: Active Galactic Nuclei in the Cosmological Context

  • Monday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 3, 2007

  • Recently the study of AGN and their role in cosmology has seen a burst of activity, fueled by a convergence of advances in observational capabilities, computational modeling and theoretical understanding. We now believe that the cosmological evolution of supermassive black holes is intimately linked to that of their host galaxies and that both populations exhibit "downsizing". The question of what constraints, if any, one can place on the physics of black hole accretion from statistical studies of AGN has received renewed attention, as has the co- evolution of AGN and galaxy populations. This workshop aims to bring together theorists, analysts and observers to discuss recent advances in our understanding of AGN within the cosmological context.
