Chair of the Department of Astronomy David Weinberg discusses his collaboration with artist Josiah McElheny on a sculpture that represents five ways a universe could form. The elaborate installation, “Island Universe,” is one of five glass and metal sculptures that Weinberg and McElheny have collaborated on after meeting in 2004, when McElheny was a resident artist at the Wexner Center for the Arts. Since its completion in 2008, “Island Universe” has been exhibited around the world, and its next appearance is at Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University from Feb. 23 to Aug. 19.
