The Distinguished Scholar Award annually recognizes six faculty members for their exceptional scholarly accomplishments and substantial compilation of research. In the past week, one ASC faculty member was presented with the award during a surprise visit:

Krzysztof Stanek, professor of astronomy
“Kris and his colleagues have constructed one of the most effective and productive search systems for transient events in the universe,” one of Stanek’s colleagues wrote. “This powerful search has revealed many examples of the types of explosions we know about, and even more interesting, has led to the discovery of rare types we have not seen before.”
