Breaking Ground to Teach the Stars: Newark Astrophysicist Leads the Way

Ohio State Newark and The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology, broke ground June 2 for their collaborative $1.4 million SciDome planetarium, expected to be completed in 2018. This dynamic educational partnership brings state-of-the-art full-dome simulations and interdisciplinary programs to Ohio State Newark students and the public. The 2,200 square foot facility will be built on The Works’ campus in downtown Newark. Michael Stamatikos, assistant professor, physics; astronomy; and member, Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particle Physics, will serve as The Works’ chief science officer, funded by an endowed professorship at Ohio State Newark.
