Tharindu Jayasinghe Arachchilage, graduate student in the Department of Astronomy, thought he had discovered two star systems — Unicorn and Giraffe — with invisible black holes. Instead, reexamining the data revealed that each star system he stumbled upon had two stars in a never-before-seen stage of stellar evolution.
