eBOSS Meeting and DESI Workshop

December 4 - 9, 2016
Organizing by Klaus Honscheid, Kristy Krehnovi, Paul Martini, Ashley Ross, David Weinberg

The Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP) at The Ohio State University (OSU) is hosting the annual eBOSS Meeting and DESI Workshop in Columbus, Ohio.

The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) and the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) experiment are ongoing and planned experiments to obtain large numbers of spectroscopic redshifts. eBOSS is part of SDSS-IV and has completed two years of a six year survey to obtain 1 million galaxy and quasar redshifts for the primary purpose of testing models of Dark Energy using baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) distance measurements. DESI is being built and will begin observations in 2020, with a mission to obtain 20 million galaxy and quasar redshifts in order to obtain greatly improved BAO distance measurements.

The eBOSS meeting will start on Sunday Dec. 4th, with a meeting of early career scientists. The main eBOSS program will start Monday morning and go through Wednesday. The DESI workshop will start Wednesday morning. There is thus one full day of overlap between the collaborations, where we hope to foster mutually beneficial discussion.
