CCAPP Seminar: "Ice giant exoplanets - what do we know about them?" Radek Poleski (OSU)
Understanding of the formation and evolution of the planetary systems requires finding extrasolar analogs of all Solar System planets. Ice giants Uranus and Neptune are particularly hard to find because of their extremely long orbital periods and low masses. It is possible to discover low mass planets on the very wide orbits using microlensing technique and several ice giant planets have already been found. Also wide-orbit objects in the brown dwarf mass regime have been detected via microlensing. I will show what are the current constraints on the population of ice giant planets and brown dwarfs from microlensing.
