I will show how the modeling of this emission and the comparison with current, and specially with future JWST observations, can be used to constrain the star formation in the CGM, the physical properties of the cold, as well as the warm-hot (!!), gas, and the origin of the diffuse radiation. The same formalism, applied at redshifts of the cosmic reionization (EoR), can also be used to infer the escape fraction of ionizing photons, and the presence of faint galaxy populations, addressing two major unknowns during this early epoch.
