Novel Searches for Dark Matter 2010 Mini-Workshop
"Novel Searches for Dark Matter with Neutrino Telescopes"
- Monday July 5 through Tuesday July 6
- Organizing Committee: Carsten Rott (chair), Shunsaku Horiuchi, John Beacom
- The Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particle Physics (CCAPP) at The Ohio State University (OSU) is holding a second mini-workshop on "Novel Searches for Dark Matter with Neutrino Telescopes" in Columbus, Ohio on July 5-6, 2010.
The main focus of the workshop will be on developing new techniques to search for signals of dark matter as well as how to interpret signal and correlate different messengers. We will bring together experts from experimental and theoretical particle astrophysics to present updates on the capabilities of IceCube/DeepCore, Fermi, Super-K, and KM3Net and to cover recent theoretical developments. The aim of the workshop is to generate new ideas for how to best exploit dark matter signals.
The workshop will have a specific structure. The agenda will be strongly topic-driven, combined with a rather flexible schedule that will allow for ample time for discussions and the exploration of new ideas. Contributions will be coordinated in advance to achieve a focused agenda and avoid duplications.
The group of participants will consist of representatives from several areas and will be kept small to achieve a more working-group-like meeting. While the workshop will concentrate on indirect searches, we also plan to explore also connections to collider physics and direct detection.
The workshop follows a Deep Core workshop at Penn State University (PSU) in State College, PA on July 1-2 (see "Second Low Energy Neutrino Workshop"). State College is about half-day's drive from Ohio State. The 2nd Novel Searches for Dark Matter workshop workshop is coordinated with the PSU workshop and we will provide a summary of its outcome.
Dark Matter searches involving Deep Core is one of the main focuses of our workshop and we expect a strong Deep Core participation. For those participants who would like to attend both workshops, please contact us about further travel options between State College and Columbus.
